How to draw a tree?
Welcome to the tree tutorial! Bryant Koshu shares step-by-step instructions on creating a stylized tree. Follow these steps to draw the most fantastic tree ever.
Step 1
Overall Sketch: *The most important part* Build the foundation. Capture the gesture. This step will set the tone and direction of your tree. Do multiple sketch if you have to.
Step 2
Fill in the sketch: Under the line layer, fill in a general tone of the tree. Make sure the fill layers are separate. Ex: the leaf has its own layer. trunk has its own layer...
Step 3
Establish light direction: roughly airbrush in a general lighting and shadow. *adding a warmer colored light + cooler shadow will add more life to painting*
Step 4
Shadow detailing: Borrow the tone close to each other using the eye dropper tool to detail in the shadows.
Step 5
Light detailing: similar process to the shadows. but this time, focusing on the lighting. Make sure to focus ont eh overall leaf shapes. not individual leaves.
Step 6
Adding style: Push the style and vibrance of painting by introducing some new color source. Ex: warm yellow from the sun. the cool shadow from grass.
Step 7
Clean up: Refine the leaves and the trunk. Add some extra branches and leaves to make the silhouette bit more interesting.
Step 8
Final touchup: Add extra detail and love to make it your style. Ex: bloom, rabbit for scales, some pop of accent reds, brush marks, etc...
